Introducing the author
Nanbu Tekki Traditional Craftsman
"Modern master craftsman " Katsuhisa Sato
Main member of the Association of Contemporary Craft Artists
Advisor of Tohokukai, Association of Contemporary Craft Artists
Advisor of Iwate Crafts and Art Association
Advisor of Iwate Association, Association of Contemporary Craft Artists
Born in Haneda, Mizusawa City, Iwate Prefecture in 1935, he entered the casting road at the age of 16.
In 1958 (Showa 33), exhibited for the first time at the 2nd Iwate Metal Casting Crafts Competition Exhibition and won the first prize.
We have received (received) more than 30 awards (chapter). In 2002 (Heisei 14), the Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare recognized his outstanding technology and achievements and was commended as a "modern master craftsman".
Currently, none of the artists of Nanbu Tekki's iron kettles and hot water kettles have been commended as modern master craftsmen.
In addition, other model technologies and administrations have been recognized, and in the fall of 2004 (2004), the Emperor received the "Yellow Ribbon Medal".
We have endeavored to popularize Nanbu Tekki, not just the production of iron kettles and kettles, such as the production of headlights in front of Mizusawa Esashi Station on the Tohoku Shinkansen and the production of monuments in front of the station.
In 2000 (Heisei 12), at the 25th National Traditional Crafts Contest, we received the "Prime Minister's Award", which is the grand prix, for the cylinder pot and improved the status of Nanbu Tekki.
The type of work that I have been making for 70 years on this road is the tea ceremony kettle.
We have more than 100 types of iron kettles and vases.
For 70 years, in the spirit of "do it," we have always kept what we thought to come true, even if it took time.
Even now, I have various ideas in my head and am trying to create new works.
Entering the path of casting and continuing to produce in active duty for 70 years, the expressive power by patterns and modeling is unrivaled, and the type of work and the number of awards (chapter) are recorded in history by Nanbu Tekki artists. There is none.
